Everything fine with our stay.Excellent place to stay if you have dogs - not too many rules and dogs are genuinely welcome, not just tolerated. This makes the difference between a relaxed stay and a stressy one! There are places to walk nearby off-lead if you have dogs who like sheep a bit too much.We\'ll be staying again for sure.

This is our second stay at the Blue Ball Inn and we had a lovely two night stay here in July with the dog. Nice clean/comfortable room with an amazing shower! Really pleased with the wet room in room 15. The food is still very good with fabulous drinks to go along with it. We were very lucky with the weather and managed to get a few long walks along the coastline and down the river to Watersmeet. We also had a fabulous day at Saunton sands (4 mile long beautiful sandy dog friendly beach) well worth the drive! Overall a beautiful part of the country and the Blue Ball Inn is a brilliant base to have. Would definitely recommend.

From the moment I called to book two rooms, with a specific room request to help assist my companion with restricted mobility, the high level of customer service was evident. From the young man who booked the rooms to the gentleman who took the time to make sure our dinner table was accessible, spot on. The rooms were lovely;warm & cosy with everything you need for a relaxing night after a day on the moors. This will be my 1st choice of hotel when visiting Exmoor from now on.Dinner was also wonderful!

Enjoyed a great two night break here - lovely accommodation with great character, perfect setting, splendid ales and fantastic food - ample breakfasts and the Bouillabiase was the best I\'ve tasted outside of Breton. We were a bit cautious about the amount of dog references, but the mutts were all perfectly behaved and our slight concerns about dog smells were completely unfounded - everything was kept spick and span. We\'ll return again someday and can highly recommend as the perfect place top stay..

We chose to stay at the Blue Ball Inn after watching one of Julia Bradbury\'s walks. It was our first visit to the area and we were pleased with our decision. The management and staff were very friendly and the food was excellent and always freshly prepared. A wide choice of drinks and wines were available. The room was very comfortable - the only drawback being the water pressure making showering difficult. I would definitely recommend the Blue Ball Inn as a convenient location for exploring the area.

After a 3 night stay at the Blue Ball Inn last weekend I\'ve got to say the whole stay was absolutely faultless. The welcome on arrival, the helpfulness of all of the staff, the quality and cleanliness of the room, the bar and restaurant area, the nice calm quiet relaxingatmosphere, the additional joy of having so many dogs on the premises too, but the stand out plus, staff aside, was the food. Oh my days. The breakfast, the lunchtime menu, the ham baguettes!, and the evening meal was incredible and excellent value for money. I\'ve already told everyone I know, especially dog owners, to pay the Blueball Inn a visit. The surrounding area and the walks and views were exquisite too. I fully recommend this place if you are looking for a nice relaxing quiet foody weekend away. This was our first weekend away together as a couple and without question we will be back. Thanks.

We arrived on a very wet and stormy night,to a warm welcome in every sense and a table already reserved. The food throughout our stay was excellent, we were all made to feel at home including our dog.So many places make dog owners feel guilty for having a dog, not here, they are greeted just as warmly as the people. A true family inn, we have been coming here since our two boys were quite young, now adults we all love the Blue Ball Inn.When the storms are raging outside, as they do on Exmoor this is a true refuge. We love it.

We have just returned from our third visit, and it was as good as ever. The Inn provides all that we and our owners could wish for. Clean and fresh rooms, good hearty food and ale for our owners, and lots of excellent walks straight from the front door for us.We heartily recommend this dog friendly establishment.

Have stayed here several times and cannot recommend a better place to stay. Room and bathroom very clean and the freshly cooked food fantastic and my only complaint being that the main meals were so generous that no room was left to try the tempting deserts! Ideally situated for touring around North Devon with fantastic views.

This is exactly my idea of what an Inn should be like. Fantastic location with some of the best North Devon walks on your doorstep. For those who horse ride there is a very good stable (Brendon Manor) 15 mins drive away. Lynton is a lovely little village to visit too. Very dog friendly. Good food menu which should suit all tastes. Comfortable rooms given the age of the Inn. If I had to change anything I think I would suggest expanding the wine list a little bit.

Excellent all round - clean, comfortable, good food and helpful staff.A useful overnight on the South West Coast Path for those wise enough to take four days to walk Exmoor, rather than the official itinerary\'s strenuous three days.Staying here, and in Heddon Valley, allows time to relish the outstanding scenery of the National Park.

Just returned from a 2 night stay at the Blue Ball, very enjoyable. Hotel was very clean and friendly and the food good.We stayed in room 6, there is however a problem with the mixer shower in this room.We did advise this when we checked out and they said they would investigate. We didn\'t have a dog with us, but found all there were friendly and not a problem at all.

This was a repeat visit for us, taking a mid week break. The pub is in a perfect location for getting out and about across Exmoor and North Devon. Nearly all the people who stay here have their dogs with them, as they are not only tolerated but made welcome. All of the staff are really friendly - as are the locals who use the pub as well, everyone is willing to chat. The food here is particularly good, with a very good menue and huge portions, the breakfasts especially are terrific! Truly a great place to stay.

We stayed at the Blue Ball for a week at the end of July with our 11 week-old baby. We enjoyed the historic character of the place and it\'s beautiful location with great walks on its doorstep. Our baby was difficult to settle at times and we were worried that he might be seen as a disturbance, but everyone was very nice about it and the staff were very helpful. We ate in the restaurant most evenings, which was excellent.

I would like to say thank you to the warm, friendly staff for a wonderful stay. Food was great and so was the breakfast, could have done with fruit and yogurt though. It was so nice we could take our dog in the bedroom and to dinner. There were lots of flies in the pub which needed sorting. Our room was very clean but could do with a bit of updating and more than one bottle of water in the rooms, especially as the tap water is undrinkable. I would definitely stop here again, perfect location for north Devon, great for dogs and walkers.

Room very clean and comfortableThis pub is so dog friendly those visting without a four legged friend feel the odd ones. All of the staff are so welcoming - Lulu at breakfast, and Luke and Johnny behind the bar- nothing is too much trouble, always smiling, loving the dogs.It was a ladies birthday during our vist and the staff decorated her table as a surprise for her.The food is super- hot plates, very fresh and good selection both at breakfast and in the evenings.Excellent real ales at the barA great base foe exploring Exmoor- lots of helpful books in the pub and friendly advice for walking and tripping around.Would highly recomend this pub , we will certainly be returning

We found the inn very much a welcoming and enjoyable place to stay. The staff were friendly and attentive and welcomed dogs which for us is important. The food was excellent, so much so we were going to spend our anniversary at a posh resurant but the food was that good the first night we booked the special night here as well and it didn\'t disappoint. Plumbing is not the best and a shower would have been good however it is an old building so to keep the charm there are always down sides. Would well recommed and will be back.

We booked here for a couple of nights mid week with our four legged member of the family. We received a lovely welcome on arrival and we were very pleased with our room.Every single member of the team was extremely friendly and helpful, and dogs certainly are welcome. It was like a little doggie retreat in the restaurant, and it appeared every single dog and their owner felt welcomed. We ate in the restaurant both evenings and the food was fantastic. Excellent choice and wonderfully executed.Breakfast was fab too!It\'s in close proximity to Lynton and Lynmouth and of course other Exmoor attractions, beaches and places of interest. But also just outside the door there are lovely coastal walks to take your dog out on.I recommend this as a place for both two and four legged customers, and thank you to Nick and the team for such a wonderful time.Hopefully we will be back!

On a few previous occasions we had visited the Inn when it was known as \'The Exmoor Sandpiper Inn.\'The last time being some 10 years ago and standards had slipped! So it was with pleasure we found a great transformation. The management and staff were friendly and helpful and the evening meals superb! Allowing our two Golden Retriever dogs to remain with us at meals was also advantageous.Room 15 was adequate for our needs with a comfy bed and wet room. The only reason I have not awarded five stars is the chest of drawers could have done with an overhaul. It was dusty inside with two of the drawers being difficult to open;one top small drawer was stuck and the bottom big drawer with one missing handle. There were also cobwebs around the room. The above comment will certainly not deter us from making another visit.Definitely recommend.

We have just come home after a four night break at the Blue Ball Inn, we had a lovely time, room very clean, breakfast wonderful, and we had a different evening meal each day all beautifully cooked. This is a dog friendly establishment and there were plenty of dogs on their holidays, we don\'t own a dog but I must say I didn\'t hear a woof or a bark either in the bar or when in bed at night. If anything the dogs broke the ice and I must say I probably conversed with more people than I normally do on holiday which made it a very nice experience . I would recommend that should you be looking for accomadation in this area book at the Blue Bell you won\'t be disappointed.

Since acquiring our Cairn Terrier \"Tex\"9 years ago we have holidayed only in the UK and Eire. With Inn\'s as good as \"The Blue Ball\"with quality food and affordable prices why would we want the hassle of airports again. We thoroughly enjoyed our 5 night stay in a large bedroom with a new wet room. The staff are absolutely pet friendly. For dog walks simply cross the road onto the common which leads on down to the lighthouse. The quality of food was so good that we eat every night at the Inn and the day was spent anticipating what we would have for dinner!! Coupled with 3 real ales on tap what better way to spend the evening before climbing the stairs to bed. The staff were friendly and helpful. This is a very useful base for exploring the North Devon Coast with Lynmouth and Lynton within reasonable walking distance.

A two night stay with the wife and dog. The pub itself is fab shy the views and walks close by are amazing. The food is good and averagely priced. We had dinner one night which was very good. The breakfast is also very good. The venue is very dog friendly and you can take them everywhere. Only issues I had were regarding room. You can pay extra for a view but I was not aware when booking. Our room was at the back and the view was a grass verge and made room very dark with not much light. TV remote not working and the shower was attached to taps with no shower curtain. However room was clean and comfortable. Not the end of the world but worth noting. Also I feel £7 fior a large glass of red is a little steep for me! Would I stay here again , for £88 per night yes but I would like a room with a view and I\'ll buy a bottle next time to drink at my leisure.

I chose the Blue Ball for the location and because dogs are allowed to stay.Staff were all friendly and helpful. The room clean bright and airy with little thoughtful touches added such as the bottle of water, tissues, and a tray to store muddy boots on, and it was so quiet. If your dog gets mucky they have facilities outside to wash them off and will provide doggie towels if you\'ve forgotten yours.Full English breakfast and extras provided, and the food in the evening (duck breast) was just superb.I\'d happily come back again and again.

I love the Blue Ball Inn. It\'s the most friendly, welcoming and relaxed place I know! Whether it\'s the friendly service from behind the bar or the array of exceptionally well behaved dogs I know I\'m relaxed as soon as i arrive. The roast dinner is also second to none. I recommend to everyone I know. Great location, great people, fantastic food and drink. A must visit for dog owners!

Very efficient and friendly staff, excellent food and great location for getting about. The room was comfy and clean, but the extractor fan stays on too long after bathroom use, very noisy. We\'ll be back!

Excellent attention to clients needs - rooms were spotless as was the bar and dining area - the food was top notch a good varied menu well cooked and presented and the staff were very friendly. I would recommend the Blue Ball Inn to anyone wanting a warm welcome with good food and a comfortable bed! They were extremely dog friendly and although I didn\'t bring my two dogs on this trip I most certainly will on my next trip. Good area for walking and the scenery is fantastic for anyone interested in photography - this is an all round gem of a place -you won\'t be disappointed.

We stayed for the 4th time at the Blue Ball Inn on the May bank holiday weekend and as usual had a lovely time.We always stay with friends and our dogs and will definitely be back.BUT - the bathrooms are very dated and our shower attachment took 10 minutes to get to the correct temperature. After a whole days walking, it would be good to come back and able to have a hot shower. There is a bath but I think most people would prefer a shower.Thank you again for a lovey stay.
Reviewer:Mrs. Jane Dougherty | Tue 3rd May 2016
wonderful stay, great people comfortable Hotel, good food but oh the plumbing! Had a shower head that water just trickled out and had to be hand held also impossible to control the temperature from scalding to cold in seconds, sort the plumbing and get a 5 star rating!

This was, probably, our 5/6 visit over 20 years. In this time the hotel has been very sympathetically modernised, particularly bedrooms. The warmth and quality stay the same!Food and drink are excellent and its position is second to none.Small warning- if you don\'t like dogs, this is not for you

We have been back to The Blue Ball at least six times now as have most of their visitors.Once you go there you will return, its homely, very dog friendly with warm wood burners to sit by on comfy sofas.Lovely food at reasonable prices.Located next to the cliffs accessed through a small church yard with endless walking possibilities. If you love Exmoor you have to stay here.

The Inn does exactly what it says in its description, we enjoyed a comfortable welcoming stay, the Inn was clean and very accommodating, food was good although a little limited in choice from day to day, right on the moor so great for walking and central to lots of other villages and bays.

The room was very comfortable with all the facilities you need, and the food was excellent. Staff were friendly and efficient. There was a minor problem with noisy floorboards on the landing outside our room - youngsters going past at around midnight sounded like a herd of elephants! The joys of an old building! This minor inconvenience was more than made up for by the ambiance of the place and the beauty of the location.

I would thoroughly recommend this delightful place. I find that I am often very disappointed by places I stay, but the Blue Ball Innwas absolutely how I hoped it would be, and more. Unspoilt old world charm, and very friendly fellow guests, AND I was also able to take my dog. LOOK NO FURTHER and get yourself booked in. I know that renovations are planned. I hope they don\'t do too much, as I thought it was just lovely the way it is/was.

Lovely Inn with a real atmosphere. We loved the open fires, candles etc.The food was good at Dinner and the cooked breakfast was also good. It would have been nice to have a bigger selection at breakfast however - some fresh fruit/dried fruits/yoghurt for example, and some nicer bread. The room was surprisingly comfortable and good value for money. The bathroom was perfectly good and very clean but would have been better with a shower cubicle rather than a bath.Overall though, despite my constructive criticism, we enjoyed our stay and would definitely return.

We had a very relaxed and enjoyable stay at the Blue Ball Inn, despite the foul weather! Dogs were welcome throughout the inn, even at mealtimes in the restaurant, which was very helpful for our puppy. The room was comfortable, the staff were very pleasant and the food was very nice and reasonably priced. The Inn provided walk sheets and we completed the shortest - at 2.5 miles not far, but the hills are very very steep. Not for the faint hearted!

Great location for both seaside (rock pools and pebbles to explore and a lovely seaside town - not the usual run down, noisy type), and countryside walks with fields, forests and waterfalls. There is a selection of free walks sheets, all starting from the blue ball so you don\'t need to drive anywhere. Food is good - we ate here every night. The list of allergens on the menu is helpful. This was our second visit and our first with a toddler, we will be back!

This inn about 2 miles from Lynmouth has loads of parking and brilliant access to both the coastal path and other circular paths nearby. The rooms are big, basic, and clean, but had everything we needed and we felt that if we needed anything else it would have been provided. We stayed in room 15 which is at the back and has been upgraded with a new wetroom, which was fantastic for my 6\'6\"husband.They had noted this fact on my booking form and gone around the available rooms to see which bed would fit him best - now that is service! The staff are so friendly, it really felt like our local immediately. They reserve a dining table for guests, which could be canceled if not used, but it seemed that most guests stayed for the excellent well-cooked food, much better than many restaurants.A fresh menu each night with some new dishes. This is VERY dog friendly, and at least 50% of guests had one or two. However with all the walking the dogs just laid down and slept.Breakfast was excellent. Many repeat guests. In the winter there are loads of fire places so it looks to be very cosy. This is also a pub as well as accommodation so locals came in to drink and eat and other walkers during the day.Very well recommended.

Lovely stay, lovely friendly, helpful staff, great food. Second stay at this dog friendly pub on Exmoor and won\'t be the last. Only negative is the room we had was over the bar and could be noisy. Last time we had a room at the back which was quieter and had a wet room.

Great atmosphere, food, location (although car required if not trekking over hills, need insect repellant too!)Free parking, fantastic range of real ales and cider. We are not wine drinkers. We stayed in room 10 which was a large room overlooking road(quiet at night), car park, pretty church and hills. The en-suite had a bath with shower attached, not ideal,a small window had a great view over stunning scenery + outside tables which were hardly used. The only negative was finding a few dog hairs in the bed and general cleanliness, although the bed itself was really comfortable and the sheets looked clean. The Blue Ball Inn is a dog friendly Inn and all dogs appeared to be very welcome, we have had, and do love dogs but we did not feed them from the table or allow them next to us whilst eating. But the positives outweighed the negatives and we would without doubt love to stay at the Blue Ball Inn again.

Arrived on foot from Minehead having (almost) completed the Somerset Coast Path. This was an excellent place to recover from 120 miles, and a particularly long day from Minehead. Lovely room, great food and a really welcoming atmosphere. Think you should market yourselves as the last night\'s stop on this newly established long distance path. Fantastic location, of course, and a nice stroll down into Lynmouth the morning after! Many thanks.

Very relaxed pub break with lots of lovely walks nearby so must have a dog to fully enjoy both the pub and the walks. We found the rooms at the back very quite and they have wet rooms which are very welcome after a long walk on a hot day. Some of the walks can be rather steep and not too good if you do not have a head for heights.

When I made my booking I asked specifically for a twin room. I then received a call would I accept a free up grade. I agreed but on arrival found that we had been changed to a twin bedded room. This was very disappointing and I would not return to the Blue Ball in the future.

Had a lovely weekend. Room at front of Inn was comfortable and very clean. The staff were very friendly, well organised at meal times and very tolerant of the many dogs who had accompanied their owners. The full English ( veggie) breakfast was the best I\'ve had anywhere. There was also an excellent buffet of the usual cereals, toast, juices etc. also, a pot of delicious hot steaming porridge.Dinner on our second night was very good indeed but beware opting for three coursesas the portions are very generous. We had a relaxing time and will certainly be returning

This is our 4th visit to stay we\'ve also been for lunch on several occasions. If you love the area don\'t want to be parted from your dog and are get hungry by the end of the day this is the place to stay. Frayed around the edges but clean tidy and very friendly, definitely 5star if you\'re a Spaniel.

Just move in with a few clothes and be as you would be at home with the added advantage of friendly staff and guests, wonderful food all cooked for you and your cleaning and tidying all done for you. The whole ground floor is a maze of oldie worldly nooks and crannies where you can sit on a comfy settee, chair or bar stool, relaxing, chatting, eating, drinking, playing pool or board games, reading the many interesting books or enjoying the dogs and admiring the strange animal heads sticking out of the walls above the comfy fireplaces. Should you venture out a 5 minute walk takes you through the church to cliff top walks with fantastic views including Lynton and Lynmouth and tame ponies and babies. Should you prefer a 10 minute bus or car trip you can visit Valley of the Rocks with the wild goats bouncing up and down the stunning steep cliffs.Bussing or driving slightly further everything from sandy beaches to shops, cafes and restaurants are available. Then you can go back \'home\' assured of feeling relaxed and extremely happy. The amazing unpressurised, feel at home atmosphere is generated from the owners down through the staff to the guests and visitors to the bar and/or restaurant and ensures everyone wants to prolongue their stay or return again and again.

The Blue Ball Inn provides a warm friendly atmosphere and decent food. We would have eaten there the second night if there had been more vegetarian options as the meals were very nice. A little shabby, in a nice way, the place has soul :). In a great location, easy to find and a short distance to drive to Lynton & Lynmouth.

We chose to return to The Blue Ball for our Wedding Anniversary. Having spent our honeymoon in the area, 27 years ago, we thought it would be a special treat, but unable to return to the same hotel/inn, as not dog friendly, we knew that we wanted to stay here again and what an excellent choice. It began with a really warm welcome for both us and our little dog. A beautiful room with scenic views. Superb food, my salmon was cooked to perfection, crispy skin and moist flakes of fish. A good selection of special gins and reasonably priced good wine list too. Really light and fluffy scrambled eggs and tasty mushrooms and the full English seemed to be healthily cooked too.A really Traditional Inn with breathtaking view of the bay. Loads of walks right on the doorstep and picturesque Lynmouth just at the bottom of the hill. Most important for us, so \'dog friendly\' and lots of fellow dog owners/lovers to talk to, too. Really friendly staff, nothing was too much trouble.

We stayed here one night on our walk fromMineheadto Lynmouth. They were very friendly and helpful. We left our car in the car park as we walked. Dog friendly too. Bed was very comfortable and the evening meal was amazing. This is such an interesting pub and Ican imagineis a lovely warm haven for walkers in the winter. Very close to the SW coast path, plus lots of walks near by. My only slight moan was that the bathroom was a littlechilly and we had a shower in a bath so you get cold whilst trying to keep the water in the bath!
Reviewer:Mrs. Cheryl Osborne | Fri 29th May 2015
This is our second visit to the Blue Ball and this time we took our friends with us who have a dog. Our room looked out over the front of the Inn and we had a lovely shower. As others have said, the food portions are huge but there are now options for smaller portions which is great. Breakfast is fabulous although the owners could do with a breakfast menu so you can be ready to order when the waitress comes to your table. Dinner reservations are recommended as it is a very busy pub with locals and visitors alike. Dogs are well catered for and there are even home-made dog biscuits for sale at the bar. The pub is a great base to visit Lynton & Lymouth. We also went on a jeep safari from nearby Dunster which did a fantastic tour of Exmoor off-road, seeing things you wouldn\'t be able to see from your car, even a group of red deer. We would have no hesitation in visiting again if in the area.

We have stayed at the Blue Ball Inn 4 times now in 14 months;our latest visit being for 3 days over Christmas. We arrived on Christmas Eve to a wonderfully warm happy welcome. We take our bulldog with us when we stay here and she is just as at home as we are!!Christmas day started with a gorgeous breakfast accompanied by a glass of complimentary Bucks Fizz, followed by a stroll on the coast path. It was heaven! Our son and daughter in law joined us for Christmas lunch as they were staying in the area. The meal was absolutely out of this world!! The quality and presentation of the meal was beyond many 5* restaurants we have visited. We spent the afternoon and early evening tucked up by one of the fires, drinking superb wine, Christmas songs gently playing in the background - a sheer delight! We left on the 27th wishing we had booked for longer. As with every visit we have had to the Blue Ball Inn we know we will return. The owners are superbly welcoming, friendly and brilliant at getting the mix just right for this Inn.When visiting they make you feel as though you are welcome friends rather than guests. Penny and I enjoyed are time with you and will definitely be back next year if not sooner. We were in room 6, the only issue was a very squeaky/noisy bathroom handle that tended to wake one up! The food was fabulous, compliments to the chef.

I don\'t normally write reviews but we have been going to the Blue Ball for a number of years so I thought it was time. Its not a short trip, around 3.5 hours for us, and the fact that we make the effort at least twice a year must give you some idea of how much we love it.It is,without doubt, one of the most beautiful parts of the country and I don\'t think we\'ll ever tire of being there. The venue itself is a pub. Its not a hotel, it doesn\'t pretend to be but if you want to go somewhere that is genuinely welcoming, where the food is excellent, the beer is top notch, the staff are friendly and welcoming and you can walk out the door on to some of the south west coasts most stunning scenery then this is the place for you.I love it, my other half loves it and we will continue to be regular visitors for as long as we are able.I\'d like to mention the owners, Phil and Jackie, who have always made us feel like its a home from home. Their Son Nick (and his family, dog biscuits, I say no more), the pub dogs, Molly and Poppy, if you\'ve been there you\'ll know, and the staff. As we all know staff come and go but Johnny has now been there a while and Kate has done a couple of seasons. They are , without doubt, friendly, obliging and in any way they can, happy to help.We shall be going back. as often as we can.

We had an awesome Autumn weekend break at the Blue Ball Inn - absolutely nothing not to like - welcoming, relaxing, and a great treat to stay somewhere with so much history.Delicious fish and chips and an ace cooked breakfast set us up well for some amazing local walking all on the doorstep. We and the Sheltie will be back!

We\'ve just returned from 3 nights at the blue ball inn. What a wonderful place.Open fires, excellent food and the friendly welcoming staff. We have a dog and found the inn excellent in their easy going approach to pets. The location makes it easy to explore the countyside with our without using the car. We will go back.Value for money, but more importantly is the feeling of relaxation.

Have stayed here many times over the years and service and comfort is always of a consistently high standard. }The inn is very friendly, the food terrific value and the bedrooms roomy and comfortable. It also has to be the most dog friendly place to stay in the UK!A great place to stay whether it\'s just to relax and do nothing or to use as a base for more strenuous treks across the moor.

This was a surprise birthday trip for someone and I choose this place as we love the Lynmouth area and now have dogs and was travelling with them. Only 12 and 10 months old, we were rather nervous as to how they would be welcomed. We needn\'t have worried. This place was perfect for us. When we saw home-made dog biscuits for sale on the bar, we knew we were in not only a dog-friendly place but also dog-lover\'s place. The old world charm, the historic memorabilia and the friendliness of the staff made our visit very relaxing indeed. The bedroom was Room 4 at the front of the pub (by the road) and overlooked the church which is 5 minutes walk away. Despite the fact that we were so close to the road, something we are not used to living in a quiet rural setting ourselves, we didn\'t suffer from road noise. Our stay was a Tuesday/Weds so there wasn\'t too much traffic to disturb us. Early morning dog-walking discovered that going through the church yard brought us directly to the cliff tops with wonderful views over the harbour bay and the coastal path that leads along the way. There are plenty of nooks and crannies to explore in the pub. Having also explored the menu, we opted to eat here so, having popped down into Lynmouth to watch the night set in, on our return we had a delicious and well presented evening meal. Breakfast was also very good (delicious sausage) and we really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and nattering with other dogs and their two-legged companions. Dogs ARE allowed in all areas (but not on furniture or beds). The bedroom and bathroom were spotless. We didn\'t mind the tired carpets in the public areas, the dust on the memorabilia - this is after all an old inn with huge open fireplaces and all of that only added to the charm for us. We wanted to stay another night but work commitments were in the way. We will have to comfort ourselves with looking forward to returning.

Travelling with a dog can be difficult when it comes to overnight accommodation. So, it was a complete joy to discover the warm welcome and dog-friendliness at the Blue Ball. The food was delicious and the memory of the pavolva stays with me still! My room was excellent and the walk out to the Foreland Point one of the best.

We spent our third long weekend at The Blue Ball Inn at Countisbury.....It is the most restful place and surrounded by some of the best walks and scenery imaginable. We brought both the dogs, who were even allowed in to the restaurant! This took a huge strain off us. The food is absolutely amazing, and there is a LOT of it , but after walking all day, it is just what you need. Cask beers and fantastic staff, all go to making sure we will return again and again. It is such an olde worlde place too, and in the winter they have fanatastic log fires.....If you need to keep up with other stuff, there is free wi fi, great place , great atmosphere great staff and great surroundings......

We chose the Blue Ball Inn for a short family treat this autumn and we were not disappointed. The location is a rural idyll (yet close enough to main attractions of the region) the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, the rooms clean, well considered and presented, the food truly excellent...and bountiful.We\'d like to thank all the crew(front of house and behind the scenes)for making us welcome and helping us share and make happy memories. Thank you. Simon, Judith, Ken and Cynthia Harris, Buckinghamshire, UK.

We had a one night stay in this friendly traditional no frills pub. We ate in their restaurant and the food was more than adequate and delicious. If this sounds over the top it underestimates the friendly and welcoming reception we received. Dogs come almost number 1. Great pub.

We recently visited the Blue Ball Inn with much trepidation having with us a very disturbed young German Shepherd dog who has had a bad start in life. We didn\'t know how she would behave or be received. The Blue Ball are fantastic. Not only were we AND dog made welcome, our room was super(the bathroom a joy!)and the food was really good- fresh vegetable selection particularly enjoyable. We can\'t thank the staff enough and can\'t wait to come back either!

On first impressions from outside we were a little disturbed by the general appearance of the Inn.But once inside we were immediately made very welcomeand because we were early, our room was not ready we had a bite to eat, a taste of what was to come.We were taken to our room what a surprise, very pleasant, bright and clean, with a lovely view.We had taken our dog because we knew she would be welcome, the list of do\'s and don\'ts regarding dogs were perfectably acceptable. We now come to the best bit, the food!to say we were impressed would be an understatement from the humble baguettes we hadon arrival to the heights of saddle of venison, sea bass, pork rib, trout and more every dish served extremely well presented by very pleasant staff who could have not been more helpful. In fact the food was so good we did not bother to try anywhere else.We have given 5 stars but feel the outside needs a bit of TLC.But having said that we would definitely come to stay again.

I stayed for three nights very recently at the Blue Ball Inn. The location was great, whether you want to just relax, or drive to the many local sights and attractions, or walk, for the latter just a couple of hundred yards or so from open grassland looking over the Bristol Channel, with views right along the coast as you walk further;and there other walks from the hotel(the one I did having a stunning view of the Watersmeet valley.) It's advertised as dog-friendly, and it certainly is, with dogs being allowed in bedrooms and the dining room;and in case anyone may be put off by dogs, they were all very well-behaved, and were kept very much under control. The food was very good and well-presented, and the staff, without exception, were friendly and helpful.I will definitely be staying there again.

The BlueBall inn is a great place to stay ,it is a relaxing and very friendly , the food is great and the staff are always willing to go that extra mile for you . We stayed in a standard room which was comfortable and clean with tea and coffee tray provided which was well stocked . The little things like providing bottled water and very good bathroom items, shampoo, shower jell and lovely soft towels . When i asked for a hair dryer it was obtained for me as there was not one in the room . This inn is pet friendly so there were lots of dogs about we did not mind this as we are animal lovers , but i would not be put off by this as the dogs were no trouble at all . I will be returning again when i need a pick me up from this hectic world . A supper place to stay .

Noise from the road is minimal.I have enjoyed the food in the pub and am happy to stay and eat in a the pub in the evenings whilst staying. The Blue Ball Inn is a fantastic olde worlde inn in a fabulous location - near the dramatic North Devon cliffs in the Exmoor National Park. There is good walking right from the door, excellent food and friendly staff. Bring your dog if you have one - it will be given a friendly welcome and will feel right at home. You are not permitted to leave your pet in your room unattended and therefore they are welcome at breakfast and at dinner. All the holiday dogs staying there were very well behaved - even ours! I think they could sense they were welcome rather than just tolerated.

Stayed here to break long journey on way to St Ives.Lovely quiet location just a short drive from Lynmouth with its riverside walks. Our room with window overlooking the road and hills was very quiet and very clean. We liked it so much that we stayed in the same room on the way back. The owners and staff are all very friendly and the food was excellent particularly from the specials menu.A substantial breakfast is also served.we did not know at the time of booking that dogs are also welcomed here.On our first night there were at least 5 staying with their owners. They were all well behaved, quiet and not a problem to anyone. We are not dog owners so were a little concerned initially that they might be noisy but we never heard a sound from them.A good welcome - good food and drink - friendly staff - clean room - quiet country setting.Perhaps the decor and carpet in the bar area has seen better days - but then it is dog friendly. Restaurant was busy both nights we were there - always a good sign. Would be very happy to stay again.

We had a fabulous stay here, the Inn is in a fabulous location, which is its big plus point. The food is amazing and great value. For us the only downside was the room however i understand that some have been refurbished and this is ongoing. Don't let this put you off though, we will be going back. Great hosts and service as well.

The previous reviews online were spot on. This place is ideal for a relaxing break. Stunning views and great walks nearby. Especially when the sun is out. Atmospheric pub with a lot of heritage. Food good and staff brilliant. Hotel clean and well run.

We and another couple stayed six nights. We found all aspects excellent - and excellent value. Breakfasts were good, and plentiful porridge was a nice touch. Other meals were well cooked and well presented. Above all, every member of staff was unobtrusively pleasant, helpful and efficient.

Everything was exactly as it has always when we have visited with the past.A very comfortable room, a lovely welcome when we got there, staff who could not do enough to make your stay as comfortable as possible and all this was extended to our two dogs as well who love their stay at the Blue Ball as much as we do.Thank you to Nick Jackie and all the other lovely staff for a very lovely relaxing break.

If you DON'T like dogs or LIKE miniscule portions of nouvelle cuisine DON'T go to the Blue Ball;it's not the Ritz, but nor does it pretend to be!!! We,on the other hand, had yet another brilliant few days there. There can't be better 'value for money' anywhere around. The surrounding countryside is some of the most beautiful in the south west, so take your dog ... oh, and your partner!!!!, for a holiday at the Blue Ball;you won't regret it !!!!!!
Reviewer:Mr Ludlow | Tue 13th May 2014
It is difficult to review the Blue Ball without it sounding like a eulogy. The pub is truly a fabulous retreat. I say pub as that is what it is and does not pretend to be anything else. This is not a heartless gastro bar nor is it a boutique hotel. The beer is good, the food hearty pub grub and the rooms clean, modern and well presented. The staff without exception are all wonderful and go out of their way to make you feel at home.My hat off to Phil, Jacky and Nick for creating such a wonderful venue. My admiration to Nick in particular;the sight of him maintaining an even keel on a Saturday evening whilst almost single handed serving 127 covers was something to behold. I for one could never have remained so calm!Plainly and simply 'Thank you' for making Troy and our stay a pleasure. One last special note for Jules - just remember it's "nice to see you again Jackie"!!

The pub was clean (no doggy smells). If you have a dog, take it with you, he will have a lovely time,

Reviewer:Monika Zawadzka | Tue 6th May 2014
Great food and plenty of different beers to choose from is a great start, add to this a great family run business with comfortable rooms and great surroundings where most of the time the noisiest thing is the fields of lambs opposite and you have the makings of a great stay.Dog friendly and walkers plus their muddy boots are welcome and the building itself is a gem. Some of the rooms have newish wet rooms which are great -14 & 15 plus 7 has a shower - others have baths if you like a soak after a long walk.Only one small negative - the dark blue towels need to be changed - a bit old and rough - but it is only a comment and in NO way a complaint.Give this place a try - best on the moor bar none and we have stayed in a lot of them
Reviewer:Ray Cowlin | Mon 5th May 2014
Room comfortable, but plumbing not so good. Hot water pressure very low - took an eternity to run a bath. The restaraunt is very good, with very good food at reasonable prices. No internet access, which is a drawback if you need to keep up to date with e mails.
Reviewer:Mr Paul Highsted | Thu 1st May 2014
A lovely old Coaching Inn with log fires and great atmosphere. The staff are fantastic - so welcoming, helpful and enthusiatic. The restaurant has an excellent menu with locally reared / caught / grown food with some great 'specials'. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Moreorless situated on the Coastal Path so lovely views and great for walkers. The owners have two dogs and dog owners are made very welcome.

Reviewer:Robin Bartholomew | Sun 20th Apr 2014
This has to be one of the friendliest places to stay. Surrounded by stunning countryside, it's ideal for those who enjoy walking. Dogs are welcome(almost obligatory)and you will never leave the table hungry. On the down side, they seem to have a low water pressure problem so the shower is a dribble and it takes ages to run a bath(so I wait in the bar)Overall...if you like the countryside you'll love this place.

I have stayed at the 'Blue Ball Inn' on a number of occasions both as a dog owner and, on this occasion, a lone traveller. It is an incredibly special place, set in breath-takingly beautiful surroundings. The food is to a high standard, the staff are very welcoming and the rooms are lovely.Even though the inn is dog-friendly through out,it is very clean and fresh. It is an ideal base to explore exmoor and North Devon with enough walks to keep you busy for your entire stay if you do not wish to use the car.I would like to thank all the staff at the Blue Ball for making my stay so special during a difficult time in my life and look forward to returning with my son on the future.

Loved everything about the Blue Ball Inn. Didn't have my own dog but"Poppy"will adopt you for a homemade dog biscuit.Food and accommodation very good and the staff are so friendly but professional.Maybea 9.30 pm chef finishing time would be good as we ran out of time to order our desserts by 9pm - the only minor problem .
Reviewer:Sandra Dale | Sat 8th Mar 2014
We stayed for three nights at Blue Ball Inn taking advantage of the three nights for the price of two offer which made it very good value for money. The food was very good as always, (and plenty of it!), the staff were pleasant and helpful and there was plenty of room in the car park. The main problem for us was the lack of a proper shower, as there were no rooms with 'wet room' showers available when we booked. The rooms we had were at the front of the hotel and did have the views but also suffered with noise from the bar and stairs.Although the website promises WiFi it was not available in rooms 1, 5 & 6, with nothing in the hotel room guide to suggest that it was available yet. Finally I must say thank you to the owners for the excellent Sunday lunch we had to celebrate my mother-in-law's 80th birthday.

This is the second time I've used this review system for the Blue Ball Inn at Countisbury on the beautiful Exmoor Coast North Devon. We had an opportunity to stay in yet another of the rooms. This Time Room 11.Nicely set out, Good Washroom facilities,The Usual nice soft towels, nice Ebony toiletries. Clean & warm! The room had a lovely chunky wooden headed bed, nice traditional bead spread, crisp bed linen, extra blanket if required in the Wardrobe.Coffee Making facilities (no miserly 2 sachets of coffee here!)Digital Television, dressing table, nice chair to sit and relax in to look out at the view through the window.More than adequate wardrobe space and bedside cabinets. What make the Blue Ball Inn even more special for us is the fact that we can have our Two Border Collies with us in the room.Believe me when I say, you'd never guess a dog had even been in any of the rooms here.Anyway, the reason for our visit this time was I was 50 years old and after deliberating over, Austria, Malta or The Blue Ball, The Blue Ball was the choice. Why?Phil,Jacky & Nick plus their staff have always been consistent in every thing they do. Friendly, Professional, Informative, and pricelessly........ Caring/Thoughtful.Every day, perfect, the food consistant in quality. Excellent Inn Fayre with daily specials. Good beers, Irish Coffee to perfection, excellent selection of wines. All served with a smile.I had an immense smile and inner happiness on my birthday evening dinner when Phil & Jacky took time to come ad spend time with us, they had laid out a table by the large log burner, Happy Birthday banners, party poppers & a Birthday card too! Then to top it all off they had their chef do a surprize cake for me, complete with candles. It made me very happy, and very proud that I had decided to stay at The Blue Ball for the 4 nights. We shall be returning again very shortly. If you want a nice friendly , traditional Old World Inn to stay in. The Blue Ball ticks all the boxes!

Just spent a 3 day break at the Blue Ball Inn in North Devon, the weather was horrible, cold wet and a gale blowing but the welcome from the staff at the Blue Ball could not have been warmer. The staff were welcoming and very helpful and the food was of superb quality and just the right amount. Its a walkers type pub and they encourage dog owners, we were neither of these but still had a lovely relaxing break.

This is the Third "New Years Eve"celebrations stay the we have had with Phil,Jacky,Nick & the staff of The Blue Ball Inn Countisbury. The first time we wanted to stay Phil informed us that he was fully booked. Not to be beaten the following year we booked before the summer!Needless to say, we then for the next two years booked for the following NYE celebrations.Anyway,This year!Nice rooms, doggie friendly,"Old England"feel to the bar, cosy fires, Excellent food.Clean (in every way)Good selection of ales (Even a Pint of "Blue Ball")The staff are very attentive and have time for everyone. The Inn Dogs are friendly too and are always on hand whether you have your own dogs or not to have a bit of attention.New Years Eve is a relaxed event, with people spread around the Inn, This year a newly weds party sparked a great deal of fun and a party spirit at one end of the inn, whilst else where others sat, drank, played board games & when the Midnight hour came and the new year rolled in, hands were shook, hugs were given, and a hearty "Happy New Year".. The bar staff went round everyone to say their bit too.Stamp of approval came in many ways this time, 3rd time NYE for us as said. It was the dogs for us too , our two were so happy and relaxed they snored through the midnight hour.So Great Inn, Accomodation, staff, food in an old world atmosphere.Lots of local walks, as easy or as challenging as you'd prefer (guides available in the Inn)Lynton, Lynmouth & Porlock close by.Exmoor National Park at your disposal.Oh and if you like Surfing, check out LynmouthI can talk for England , so I'll shut up now. This an Inn, Old world style.Book it and enjoyMany Thanks to Phil,Jacky,Nick and your staff. We will be back soon!Happy New Year for 2014!!Chris & Trisha

Having used the Blue Ball whilst on holiday in 2009 for our evening meals we always said we would love to return one day and stay at the pub. This has now happened and we are delighted to say we were not dissapointed. The selection of food and drinks were as good as we remembered and to only have to wander up a flight of stairs to bed afterwards was a bonus - as indeed was wandering back down each morning to a fantastic breakfast. We will return and would highly recommend it to anyone. The atmoshere is brilliant with a huge inglenook fire to greet you along with the sign above the bar that has always remained in our memory 'Dogs and muddy boots Welcome' - Sums it up really - Fantastic venue for a break.

We have visited Blue Ball several times and always found the welcome incredibly warm, so 'dog friendly' that all the dogs relax and are very well behaved. Food is superb both in the choice and quality. Rooms are warm, snug and spotless, with good supply of tea/coffee !!As we are relatively frequent visitors, you can be assured that these regular visits are a compliment to the Blue Ball owners and staff. Thank you.

Stunning countryside from the doorstep and a selection of printed walks at the inn for you to make use of. Food is plentiful and delicious and prices are very reasonable. Rooms are comfortable with kettle, TV and now wifi for those that cant live without it! We stay here every year and will keep coming back time and time again as this is just the perfect place to stay of you want to immerse yourself in the stunning countryside of Exmoor and get away from it all.5 stars in my book

Having had to postpone our anniversary weekend twice we ended up taking it in November. We where pleased we did as it happens.Entering the Blue Ball Inn with the smell of a log fire and home cooked food when it is overcast is very welcoming. We booked here because we could take our dogs. I'd read reviews and read about room 12, so it was a surprise when we where shown to that very room. It was perfect for us, plenty of room for the dogs cage to go up. An extra heater if you got cold, blankets, and it was so quiet. Beds comfortable, tea, coffee and biscuits. TV reception good. We both enjoyed a leisurely bath before our evening meal. We ate both evenings and the choice was good and meals very good and filling. Plenty of comfortable seating and log fires to lazy around once you came in from the many walks right on the door step. Will definitely recommend this placeand if you are a dog owner/lover it is just the ticket.

We had a wonderful five nights at the Blueballs, it is one of our most favourite places in the world. It is a lovely warm, friendly place that we and our little dog absolutely love, she even remembered where she stayed the time before. The food is plentiful, delicious and excellent value, wine was very nice, and the staff are always patient and friendly even when busy. Our room was pretty, warm and comfortable, the plumbing is ancient but we always had lovely hot water. We love the walks in the surrounding stunning countryside literally on the pub doorstep, and what a welcoming site with the smoke coming out the chimney after walking back up Countisbury Hill.thank you to everyone at the Blueballs we shall see you next Autumn, already excited!

We stayed here for 4 nights during half term. My husband and I had a double room at the front of the Inn with our 15yr old daughter in her own room next to us. From the minute we checked in we felt at home. We took our Bulldog, Tilly and she loved the fires especially! Dogs are truly welcome at the Inn where you can have your 4 legged friend with you throughout. The food - what can I say?! It is absolutely amazing!! All food is served beautifully, portions are huge (don't try having a starter first - you will never manage your main!!) and the service is fast and personal. The owners very obviously care very much about all who visit or stay at the Inn.Our rooms were immaculately clean and serviced daily. Water pressure is low but nothing you wouldn't expect in a building of this age. We love Exmoor and especially the Lynton and Lynmouth area;now we know exactly where we will be staying every time we visit.Book a stay at the Inn for 'olde worlde' charm, excellent food, family service and value for money - you will not be disappointed!!

A warm welcome - log fires and friendly, personal service and well presented rooms - greeted us and made this a great long weekend break and family celebration. We thoroughly enjoyed the food and drink. We walked on Exmoor in the day and relaxed over a leisurely dinner in the evening. Whether we wanted to read a book, chat at the bar, take tea, order a bedtime snack, sit with the dogs curled at our feet, play a game, there was always a comfortable space and great service to make it possible.

The fact that we have stayed here many times over the years speaks volumes for the great hospitality and atmosphere.A good cellar, fine food and comfortable rooms are just what's required for a relaxing break and the Blue Ball provides them in plenty.Already looking forward to our next visit!

We have just returned from a 3 night break at the Blue Ball and cannot speak highly enough of our short stay there, all staff were brilliant, friendly and helpful. Our room was overlooking the front and side and was extremely comfortable with everything provided one could wish for.The menus were varied with plenty of choice, the portions were certainly huge as stated by others, the food being superbly cooked with plenty of local produce.Breakfast was also a treat with buffet style cold selections and waitress service for full english. The pub is a dogs delight, dont visit if you dont aprove, we felt left out as we no longer have a dog but we were able to make friends with many there. We were warned of the poor water supplybefore we went and the lack of pressure for the bathwater which was no more than a dribble in our room was the only down side to our stay although not enough to deter us fromreturning again. Apparently some rooms have wetrooms which is an improvement so perhaps in time all will be improved as the water comes from a private well and is cetainly pure to drink. The bar has a cosy lived in feel with a good selection of real ales etc at not too bad prices. All in all a great find and we will certainly return!

The food is fabulous. Great area lots of nice walks and the dog loved it to.We can't wait to go back at Christmas if the roast dinner is anything to go by Christmas Dinner will knock Marks and Spencer's socks off. As an ex-hotelier and pub owner , it is extremely rare for me to find a place to stay and to eat without finding something I would have done better - The Blue Ball Inn is one of those rare places . All the staff , from the owner's downwards were most welcoming and helpful and all were very cheerful ( a very rare commodity in our world today) Nothing was too much trouble , including serving Sunday Lunch at 3.30 after a long walk on the moors . It tasted as if it was freshly prepared - not 3 1/2 hours after lunch was served . As it was open all day it was great it was great to relax in the warm cosy atmosphere reading the papers after a very big Sunday Lunch . All the food was /tasted home made with enough to satisfy the biggest appetite . There was oodles of hot water and was a fantastic warm oasis in the middle of the moors . Cannot recommend it high enough . Living in France one thing I miss is the English country Pub - The Blue Ball Inn managed to "deliver"my dream pub . The star ratings do not go high enough for this Inn Thank you for keeping my "dream pub"alive

We stayed for a long weekend to celebrate my fathers 70th.The food was fabulous, venue is extremely welcoming, rooms clean and very pretty and the staff were so friendly. The location worked so well for us as each day different groups of family would go off sight-seeing and others walking on the many different routes down to Lynmouth/Lynton.I have to say my brother's dogs had a wonderful stay too!!!

As the title says this is our 3rd visit to the Blue Ball Inn and each time it gets better and better. We were travelling with our 3 year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Ollie and he just slotted back in as if he'd never left. The food is excellent - a Main Course usually suffices for dinner so try having dessert for afternoon tea so that you don't miss out! We will definitely be returning!

My wife and I, with our border collie Jess ,have just returned from a thoroughly enjoyable 3 night stay at the Blue Ball Inn.From the moment of our arrival until departure we made to feel at home by every staff member we encountered. We ate at the Inn on 2 of the nights , the food and the service were excellent, complemented by an excellent choice of wines. The bar offered a wide choice of real ales which were very well kept. Our room was spotlessly clean , the bed exceedingly comfortable and although we faced the road it was very quiet. If you enjoy walking and don't have any issues with dogs it is hard to imagine a more suitable place to stay. Superb walks start at the door and are described in a series of very helpful leaflets provided by the Inn.The only thing preventing a 5 star rating is the plumbing in our bathroom which meant that ,although hot water was plentiful , it was rather slow to arrive. An ongoing refurbishment programme should however soon deal with this.We certainly intend to return.

Myself and my partner had an amazing time at The Blue Ball inn. The room (room 6) was lovely, very comfortable and beautiful room. The staff were polite and helpful and the food really makes the stay enjoyable. The food was great and greatly priced. The only thing that I would suggest is to have Wifi as this would really benefit people who stay especially as there is a lack of phone/Internet. This would then make the stay much more enjoyable and therefore I would rate The Blue Ball inn asgood. With Internet it would be excellent. I will definitely book again and recommend to friends.

The location was perfect, really close to Lynmouth and Lynton with fantastic views all round. All the walks start from the Blue Ball Inn, which is very accomodating to walkers and their dogs. The food was amazing and reasonably priced. The only thing that we thought let our stay down was our room. We stayed for 4 nights, in a very warm room in the summer, the sheets were not changed once. The window in our room had a condensation issue and every morning we woke to the kitchen staff smoking and chatting below. We stayed in a suprior double room as it had a shower. This turned out to be a shower attachment and wasn't very powerful. However the room was comfortable and clean. All in all this is a lovely place to come and stay for walkers and their dogs, we didnt eat out once!!

Good weather prompted a spur of the moment decision for a trip away and rang the hotel on Friday afternoon looking for accommodation Friday and Saturday nights.Got last available room for the two of us plus dog.Fabulous location and lovely view. The walks "straight out of the door"we're marvellous. We ate both evening meals at the hotel as well as breakfasts, all of which were freshly prepared, good quality and generous in proportion. The hotel was very dog friendly as advertised and all guests with dogs that we met maintained control and canine manners making the time at the hotel nice and relaxed. Our room was roughly over the bar and there was some noise although we were too tired out from walking to be kept awake by it.I would ask for a room not over the bar next time though. The area is beautiful and this hotel is a really good base to use for exploring it.We plan to stay here again.

Very enjoyable walks to Watersmeet for a cream tea and along the cliffs from The Hunters INN to Woody Bay and Henddons Mouth with another stop for a pint and a creamtea at the Hunters Inn. There is another short walk from Linton to the valley of the rocks which is along the cliffs again and another stop at the tea shop Mother Meldrums for you guessed it, a cream tea. An inn brimming with character high up on the coast above Lynmouth. The en-suite room (number 9) was clean an well furnished. The meals were excellent as was the choice of real ales at the bar. The one thing that prevented this review from being five stars was that the wait to be served at meal times was often lengthy. Even so we'll visit the Blue Ball Inn again on our next Exmoor break.

We loved the relaxed atmosphere all made to feel very welcome and if the weather was bad no problem relaxing in the bar or lounges. The food was extremely good, good portion size and fresh produce no need to eat anywhere else. Our only criticism was the decor very tired and not fresh the bedding poor quality and needs updating so does the bathroom facilities. Inn is very dog friendly which was not a problem apart from the doggy smell in the room. If looking for a relaxed informal stay then this is the place for you if looking for comfortable rooms then maybe not.Overall we would stay here again.

A pleasant stay was had at the pub. The evening meal on the first night was well cooked and the atmosphere was good. On the second evening we ate elsewhere and came back for drink. A fun evening was spent chatting to the barman and drinking cider. Our room was clean and comfy. The shower and bathroom were of a good standard. Our only problem was the noise of the TV from the next room. Thank you for a good few days.

Very welcoming and the rooms were very clean and tidy. Booking is easy and very much value for money. The food is excellant and generous proportions which lends itself for long walks! Already planning to stay again

We had a great week at the Blue Ball Inn, the pub is lovely;cosy, good food and friendly service. Our room was comfortable, clean and warm (despite the FREEZING weather!). The inn is dog-friendly and full of friendly dogs, which we enjoyed but means this probably isn't the place for someone with any issues around dogs. The inn has a wonderful setting in stunning coastal countryside and near lots of great walks, drives and places to visit.

What a treasure to find, still a true country inn professionally run. Surrounded by breathtaking scenes, moors and great walks.Hearty breakfasts, good pub grub, substantial evening meals. Several cubby holes within pub with warming open fires. Friendly locals. Very dog tolerant. The plumbing system is currently being updated and this is the only thing that requires changing - don't change anything else! Will be definately coming again

Snugly nestled under Countisbury Hill on Exmoor close to Lynton, Lynmouth, the South West Coast Path and the East Lyn River, the Blue Ball Inn is the perfect walkers pub. With friendly dogs, wood fires, good beer and excellent food it is rambling, comfortable and usable. The National Trust car park is just opposite and the prices are good. The walks from outside the door are highly varied from cliff tops to moorland to wild combes, scree slopes to lichen covered old woodland and idyllic or dramatic river valleys. And this was in the rain/cold/wind/snow. Walks feel wild enough but usually there is another snug pub or tearoom just round the corner. Would definitely come back.

Wonderful, cosy pub with rooms and fires galore. Comfortable room (alas, with a street light outside but not much the inn can do about that)Excellent real ale and hearty food. Very dog friendly....a rarity and a real treat. Will come again

We had a wonderful time at the Blue Ball Inn. All the staff were extremely friendly and accommodating of us with our three month old baby and our springer spaniel. The food was also exceptional and we ate in the restaurant every night of our stay. It is in a fantastic location for walking/dog walking with the coastal path and other footpaths very close to the Inn. A beautiful location. The double room was more than adequate and we would recommend the Blue Ball Inn to everyone.

What a fabulous place roaring fires, superb food and a warm welcome. Laura my wife was particularly taken with Poppy the Labrador who followed us everywhere. Hope to return when the weather is better.

The Blue Ball is wonderful place to just be in your "own world"nothing is too much trouble. The whole family & co that help run it make you feel as though it is a "home from home"relaxed, rustic andwarm even if the weather is not! Food is wonderful, people fab, location is great, dogs catered for too what more can you ask for! Except more holiday...

Homely, oldy worldy, good food.It speaks volumes for the place that it was apparently fully booked (18 rooms) during inclement weather in mid March! It makes no pretence to be luxurious, which you would not expect anyway
